IRRI met with Camuscross and Duisdale Initiative on the 26th February on the Isle of Skye. Joining the meeting were representatives from Local Energy Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. This meeting was to visit the potential Allt Duisdale hydro scheme, with the potential to utilise new technologies in small scale hydro schemes.
A site visit was conducted by all of the people involved in the meeting and the project looks like a very interesting opportunity for the community to generate their own power on land which has recently been purchased from Scottish Water, having been sitting redundant for a number of years. The scheme will depend, at least in part, on whether or not the nearby Hub project goes ahead. Camuscross and Duisdale Initiative are keeping their fingers (and toes!) crossed as they hear from the Lottery on the 5th March as to whether they will provide up to ?1 million of funding for this scheme!
WARES is keeping its fingers and toes crossed too!
